STAND together with the Human Rights Commission have launched a joint venture to assist victims of violent crime.  As there is no official database of victims/survivors anywhere in South Africa, we need your help to build one. Any information received will treated in the strictest of confidence and will NOT be used for anything other than information gathering at this stage, unless the author grants permission in writing.

Each individual case will be captured, and submitted to the Human Rights Commission.  Please understand that this will take some time to achieve, so we ask for your patience.  Tell your friends and family members that may have had similar experiences about this survey, as the more information we have the more comprehensive our database will be.  We ask that each incident is only recorded once – this will help us keep duplications to a minimum. 

The following violent crimes are relevant to this survey:

§         Mugging (with a deadly weapon)

§         Hijacking

§         Armed Robbery

§         Assault with Intent

§         *Rape  

*Information received in this regard will be held in the strictest confidence.

Write down your experiences as clearly as you remember them and tell us how you were treated by:

§         SAPS, (South African Police Services)

§         EMS (Emergency Medical Services) – if applicable

§         The Hospital (Private and/or Government) – if applicable

§         Other (i.e. Trauma Counselling, the Judicial Process etc)

This is NOT to be viewed as a witch-hunt, so we would appreciate both good/bad experiences where “Services” are involved.  While we appreciate that your experience will have been highly emotive, we ask that you be as concise as possible, and give praise where praise is due.
